Tribal Rugs Identification
While Handmade rugs will upgrade the appearance of any room, tribal rugs with their unique colours and designs, lend a special warmth that cannot be achieved otherwise. The tribal rugs are essentially a one-off work of tribal art usually created by nomadic or semi-nomadic people living in small villages or on the open plains where the raw materials for the rugs come from their own animals or bought from shops along their routes of travel. It can take several months for one person to make even a small prayer rug, and larger Persian triable carpets may require the daily work of several persons for more than a year. The value of the tribal rug is therefore directly related to the time and effort made to create it. The quality of the materials and complexity of the design affect the time required to create these carpets and these factors also affect the value. An important factor in determining the value of a carpet is the source of the carpet.: where was it made and by what tribal group?
Persian Carpets of generally similar design, size, materials and workmanship can be made in widely different geographical areas. For example, a Turkmen rug made by the Turkoman tribes from north-eastern Iran,. Their rugs in Todays, are extremely high-quality.
The serious carpet collector must therefore be armed with sufficient knowledge to study a Persian carpet and with reasonable accuracy, identify some key features of the Persian carpets design, construction and origin. While an amateur collector may never be able to "smell the wool" and tell what village the sheep came from, there is considerable enjoyment and satisfaction in successfully researching a carpet to confirm its origin. This clause will outline many of the variables in carpet identification and will provide some general guidelines to follow in assessing your future purchases. It is not to be confused as a definitive reference document and should be used only in context with other carpet books and your own experiences. We do have the best quality here in our Gallery, please pay a visit to us and enjoy the lovely collections.
9 Characteristics Of Persian Rugs You Need To Know Before You Buy.
The Persian rugs can make a beautiful complement to any home, but there are some issues to be aware of when you are purchasing one. You want to be sure you are buying a high-quality, handmade Authentic Persian rug that will last you a lifetime.
1. PRICE
When shopping, it’s more advisable to deal with your local dealer and always make sure they have been long enough in business and have a good reputation. And always try to feel the rugs first and buy them, is very hard to buy them online, because you can’t feel them.
2. SIZE
It will not affect the price as much, so it’s helpful to measure the space where the rug will live so you can make sure you buy the right size. Always good to have a gap around the rug.
3. MATERIAL
Handmade Persian rugs are made from only the most high-quality materials. Hand-spun wool and silk are much more valuable than cotton or wool-cotton combinations. You will immediately notice a difference between a silk rug and a cotton rug. Look for fine wool rug and fine wool kilim to feel them.
4. COLOUR
Persian rugs come in many different colours, so it’s really up to you to decide which colour scheme will best suit your tastes. Look for a rug that uses natural dyes, which tend to hold colour longer so they won’t fade. Chemical dyes can look more washed out. Saying that there are only limited colours on organic days so try to find the closet to your test
5. TYPE
There are four basic Persian rugs: usually made from wool or silk. Wool on wool or wool on a cotton or a combination of wool and silk, other ones are all flatweaves made without knots, flat we’ve called kilim. They are often used as wall hangings and smaller rugs.
6. STYLE
Many experts can look at a rug and immediately know the region it came from and the story it tells. The stories are usually those that the creators, generally women, want to tell. Look for the story in a Persian rug so you can understand its significance. Even The colours have meaning.
7. AGED
Older rugs are more valuable than newer ones because they are antique works of art. Newer carpets can still be high quality but don’t have as much inherent value as older ones. In some very high-quality Persian rugs, new rugs come at very high prices too.
8. HANDMADE
Handmade rugs are more expensive than machine-made, but the difference in quality is clear. Very few rugs are handmade today, so they are rare finds. A handmade rug may have some imperfections, but those only heighten the overall aesthetic. They are still making Handmade rugs but not as many as they used to. Handmade Persian Rugs Are a good investment.
9. REGION
Ask where a rug originated. Not all of them come from Persia(Iran)some are from another country, Persian rugs Some come from, City area and some are from nomadic people but they are all from Persia or the new name Iran. others called oriental rugs. For more info please come to our Gallery.

Gabbeh Rug!
Gabbeh
Gabbeh, also spelt Gaba or Gabeh, is the name given to a specific rug woven by the Luri and Qashqai tribes. They are coarsely woven, brightly coloured and have a thick pile. Traditionally Gabeh’s were made for domestic use and not for the market. Most of the ones traded are sold in the Shiraz bazaar. Typically the warps, wefts and pile are all of the hand-spun wool and there are no fringes: the kilim at the end is tucked in and sewn up.

There is a huge variety of different designs: geometrical motifs, animals, architectural. Sometimes Gabehs are coarse rewordings of carpet designs from elsewhere in Iran. These are often referred to as Old Gabehs. Typically colours are red, orange and deep blue. Some Gabehs woven by the Lurs have piled on both sides. These are used as blankets and known as Gabeh patuee. We have one of the best collection of them here in Brisbane in different colours and modern patterns in very low price.
The Entrance Hall
The entrance hall in most homes is usually a very small area, an area which more often than not is not blessed with a great deal of natural light. All of which means that it can be a bit of a challenge when it comes to choosing how to decorate it and what kind of Rugs, furniture is most appropriate for this space.
The hall is the first thing visitors will see when they arrive at your home, and as the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression. You have to take care of every detail when decorating and, most importantly, make good use of the available space.
Another good tip if you want to make the hall area look bigger is to use a large mirror or perhaps a set of small matching mirrors. Below the mirror, you can put a shelf with a vase, a small tray for keys, family photos, an incense holder or a maybe even some beautiful scented candles.
When it comes to the choice of floor coverings you should bear in mind that the hallway has the greatest amount of foot traffic of any area of the home. Accordingly, it is best to lay a hard-wearing carpet, which will enhance the area as well as creating a very cosy feeling to the entrance of your home.
However, even the hardest wearing carpet will not look very good for long if it is not properly cared for. Make sure you keep it in tip-top condition by regular vacuuming.

Authentic Persian Rugs?
What does “Persian rug" mean? It means the carpet is hand-knotted in IRAN and is not an imitation made in Pakistan, India, Turkey or elsewhere. This is a significant issue. Even though carpets may look the same superficially, they are not. Carpets that are made in IRAN are dyed differently, usually with vegetable pigments. In addition, the Persian knot is different. If you have a very tight budget, an imitation is probably a reasonable solution. But if you are looking for something that will keep its colour and quality for a long time, buy a "Real Persian carpet". 9) If you change your mind for any reason, how long after purchase can you return it? We will exchange your rug after even many years of the date you did buy it from us, no limit. 10) Do they have Certificate of Authentication for the carpet and rug? Authentication Certificate Always asks for a Certificate of Authentication for your carpet, as we ask from the dealer in Iran. If you sell your carpet in the future, it will add value or it will help for your insurance. 11) How can I check the dealer s reputation? Always check the seller dealer from whom you buy a carpet.
Ask friends-word of mouth is the best source of information. This is especially important if you are looking to buy a carpet from the internet. There is a way, how long they have been in business? It is always a good idea to check your local dealer also. If you find a piece that you like, it will be more convenient to buy it at a store. Just remember, the price is usually is better than travel salesman or on the internet. Check for damage, stains, and odours. Do not be shy about asking questions! We at Persian carpet art centre have been in business for since 1983 here in Brisbane. All the carpets and rugs that we sell are 100% handwoven and are made in IRAN... All of our rugs are washed before selling. We will issue a Certificate of Authentication for all carpets sold. We are always open to your questions. If you still have more questions, just ask us. Simple Tools.
You can see the simple tools are creating the best art for you and I, yes three of many versions of the Tigh (knife) and two types of scissors or Chichi-in Farsi and one of the many version of duftun comb. And one of a many version of ideal or drafsh in Farsi. The weaver needs a number of essential tools a knife for cutting the yarn as the knots are tied a comb-like instrument for packing down the wefts and a pair of shears for trimming the pile, In Tabriz the knife is combined with a hook to tie the knots which lets the weavers produce very fine rugs, as their fingers alone are too thick to do the job. A small steel comb is sometimes used to comb out the yarn after each row of knots is completed. This both tightens the weave and clarifies the design. A variety of instruments are used for packing the weft. Some weaving areas in Iran known for producing very fine pieces use additional tools.
What is kilim?
What is kilim is it as good as Rug? Yes ,kilim is the flat woven rugs ,it is the same as rugs ,kilim will give you a long-time service as well ,but the only deferent with rug is kilim doesn’t have any tick pile, it is sometimes double side or in some of them only one side, The difference between a kilim area rug and a carpet or a pile rug is that whereas the design visible on the kilim is made by interweaving the variously co lured wefts and warps, thus creating what is known as a flat weave, in a pile rug individual short strands of different colour, usually of wool, are knotted onto the warps and held together by pressing the wefts tightly against each other. In this case the whole design is made by these separately knotted strands which form the pile, and the patterns become clearly visible after any excessive lengths of the knotted materials are shorn off to create a level surface. Still no one knows since when kilims started but we know that goes to a long time ago.
Persian Loom!!
Heading
As you can see in this photo of the loom Persian carpet and rugs have a limited number of layouts.
Almost all of these have a number of elements in common, including the field, a border or multiple borders and some form of medallion or pattern. Some of the most commonly used for Persian design are the all-over, medallion and one-side layouts.
This simply refers to the type and location of the patterns used in the rug.

History Of Persian Rug!
The History of Persian rugs Weaving is one of the most ancient crafts in the world. It is mentioned in the Old Testament and in Homers Iliad. Documents about weaving exist from the period of the Sassanid Dynasty, Which ruled Persia from the third century to the middle of the seventh century. Rugs woven in Persia are referred to in the Chinese sui annals (590-617-A.D). And who can forget Cleopatra’s famous encounter with Caesar, arriving at his feet rolled up in a Persian carpet. We did explain about the oldest rug in the world before Pazyryk rug. In the time of (531-579 A.D.)The Persian king Chosroes I, to celebrate his defeat of Romans and his conquest of southern Arabia, ordered a very special carpet to be made for his palace at Ctesiphon. This rug was known as Spring Carpet of Chosroes and was the most expensive carpet ever made. They are saying that it measured as much as four hundred feet long by almost one hundred feet wide (121.8 x 30.50m) and it was more than two tons. But in 627, King Chosroes II was defeated by the Byzantine emperor Heraclius, who did not appreciate the carpet, he did let people to cut pieces from the rug and take them home as souvenirs

TO-DO List
OK! Let's see what you should look for in a Persian Carpet.
1) What is your budget?Answer:
Check your budget; decide how much money you are willing to spend on purchasing a rug.
2) Do you know what size carpet are you looking for?Answer:
Please do not guess about the size of the carpet! This is one of the main problems with shopping. Take a tape measure and define the width and length of the area where you are planning to put your carpet. You and the seller will save lots of time and money
3) Where the carpet is made? Answer:
We believe the best quality is hand-knotted in IRAN. Why? The Persian knot is different from that of carpets not made in IRAN. The quality of wool is also different. For these reasons, the price of a real Persian carpet made in IRAN is much higher than that of an Indian copy.
4) How many Knots per square inch?
Answer:
First, you should understand the concept of knots and why this is important. Tribal rugs do not have a knot number structure, but city carpets use knots as an indication of value. Usually, as the number of knots increases, so does the quality and price of the carpet. There are two units being used for knot counting.
RAJ (Number of the Knots in 7 centimetres)
KPSI (Number of the Knots per Square Inch)
The formula to convert the RAJ to KPSI is:
[(RAJ/7) x2.54]^2=KPSI
For example, a 30 Raj Kashan will have:
[(30/7)*2.54]^2= 118 KPSI
5) How old is the carpet?
Answer:
Rug prices vary depending on age. The older the carpet, usually the more valuable. Make sure you do not get a chemically washed carpet. Unfortunately, there are dealers that still practice this method of making their rugs look aged. The correct term for this process is "Antiqued Rug"
6) Did they wash the carpet before selling it?Answer:
It is not a bad idea. Actually, the majority of carpets are washed before being sold. A hand-made rug should be washed by professionals. Do not try to wash it at home. Always ask your local dealer. They are the best source of information about getting a carpet washed.
7) What does a "Real Persian Rug" mean?
Answer:
It means the carpet is hand-knotted in IRAN and is not an imitation made in Pakistan, India, Turkey or elsewhere. This is a significant issue. Even though carpets may look the same superficially, they are not. Carpets that are made in IRAN are dyed differently, usually with vegetable pigments. In addition, the Persian knot is different. 8) If you change your mind for any reason, how long after purchase you can take it back to exchange.
Answer:
for any reason, you can take the carpet back to exchange it with another rug.
9) Do they have Certificate of Authentication for the carpet?
Answer:
Always ask for a Certificate of Authentication for your carpet. If you sell your carpet in the future, it will add value. But The Certificate must come from a local dealer, not travelling salesperson.
10) How can I check the sellers, dealer's reputation?
Answer:
Always check the seller/dealer from whom you buy a carpet.
Ask friends-word of mouth is the best source of information. This is especially important if you are looking to buy a carpet from an internet auction on eBay or Yahoo. Check the seller feedback. How long they have been in this business.
Check Trusted Dealers List and See if you look for local trusted rug dealer.
It is always a good idea to check your local dealer also. If you find a piece that you like, it will be more convenient to buy it at a store. Ask us.

Proffesional Valuation For Probate And Family Division.
You must have a certificate of valuation for a Persian rug (when the owner of Persian carpet dies,) in order to establish the values to be distributed to the beneficiaries of his or her estate. Capital transfer taxes (if any) will also be based on this given value and government revenue departments are likely to insist on a specialist valuation if the chattels of the estate are thought to be of significant value. The same things when a formal valuation is often needed in the case of a separation or divorce settlements or on the setting up of family trusts. The basis of valuation for these purposes is the real price on the open market for sale. Or after selling expenses have been deducted.so it means always leave the gap for the cost of work the dealer or the person is selling it for you. To get the real valuations you should go to the dealer near your home, remember try to get as much as you can regarding their times they have been in business, never go to the new business or to the person is working for somebody else, because he or her may not know the real value only the price of their good on the shop. Traditional Hand Made Rugs!
Persian rugs or handwoven rugs are beautiful traditional style rugs all woven by hand to create magnificent long-lasting floor rugs that are strong and can be as interesting as they are attractive, typically these rugs were woven in Middle-Eastern countries, but other styles originate from Asia and other parts of the world. Some owners of Persian rugs will accept no others as they become so attached to the beauty and stories behind the pieces they own. Buying a Persian rug for your home will provide you with a beautiful enhancement to the décor of your room, as well as a talking point with your friends. (Hint: When you buy one, spend some time looking for the human errors in the weaving, they're never perfect!)They are many deliberate mistakes on most of the handmade rugs, its add more character to the beauty of the rug.
Simple Advice For New Rugs!
In the time we have been in this business, the experience has shown that many carpets become worn out or damaged too early owing to bad handling in home.so some simple advice about caring for your rugs.in the first months of your purchasing a new rug should definitely not be beaten and preferably not vacuum cleaned, at any rate not too often. Because the pile should first tread well in since this makes the surface less liable to wear. And a new rug will moult a certain amount, depending on the length of its pile but this does not affect the quality or lifetime and will gradually cease .in wool piles, it is the short fibres that moult, leaving mostly the shiny top hair, so that a rug develops its proper sheen only after a certain amount of wear. Never try to pull out knots or thick threads let an expert cut or fasten them.in the time you are going to vacuum cleaning, your rug makes sure that the mouthpiece is smooth always work in the direction of the pile so that the dust is not pressed back into the rug or carpet. It is wrong to continue vacuum cleaning for as long as fluff keeps on coming into the cleaner since in this way it is possible to destroy the carpet and rugs pile entirely. Spot of dirt and fat should be removed with volatile cleaning agents petrol or carbon tetrachloride. Always use a clean rag, and make sure that it is done in a well-ventilated room or out of doors to avoid the fumes from these liquids. Remember that the lifetime of a carpet is very largely dependent upon the treatment it receives. Treated properly and carefully, it will last longer. Investing capital in a fine, hand-woven carpet is investing in a work of art

Some owners of Persian rugs will accept no others as they become so attached to the beauty and stories behind the pieces they own.
